Global Positioning System (GPS) Amplifiers: Covering L1 through L5

GPS Amplifier Models

Ciao Wireless offers a wide range of amplifiers in support of the Global Positioning System (GPS). Units are typically manufactured utilizing Balanced Circuitry to ensure stable operation with low return loss. All units feature Thin-Film Hybrid MIC construction with proven Military Reliability and Qualification. Ciao's standard models also noise figures as low as 0.45 db typical.

Ciao's GPS Amplifier series standard options include Bias-T, input limiter, waveguide, temperature compensation and filters/diplexers. Our GPS Amplifiers cover electromagnetic spectrum assignments L1, L2, L3 and L5. Extended coverage to L4 can be specified at no additional charge. Ciao Wireless can manufacture any of these low-noise models to operate from a low-voltage DC power source from +3.9 to +15 VDC, with typical supply voltages including +3.9, +4.5, +5.0, +6.5, +8, +12 +13.5 and +15 VDC. DC Power can be provided by a dedicated power input terminal or, optionally, by RF coax center pin.

GPS Frequency Assignments and Coverage:

  • L1 (1575.42 MHz): Carries a publicly usable coarse-acquisition (C/A) code as well as an encrypted precision P(Y) code.
  • L2 (1227.60 MHz): Usually carries only the P(Y) code. The encryption keys required to directly use the P(Y) code are tightly controlled by the U.S. government and are generally provided only for military use. The keys are changed on a daily basis. This signal is also being used surreptitiously by several high-end GPS equipment manufacturers to increase accuracy and remove error caused by the ionosphere.
  • L3 (1381.05 MHz): Carries the signal for the GPS constellation's alternative role of detecting missile/rocket launches, nuclear detonations, and other high-energy infrared events.
  • L4 (1841.40 MHz): Being studied for additional ionospheric correction, possibly to entice several high-end GPS equipment manufacturers to stop using L2.
  • L5 (1176.45 MHz): Used as a civilian safety-of-life signal.

While all models are manufactured to operate within a rugged Military Environment, the factory should be consulted for specific environmental operating conditions. All models can be supplied in compliance with MIL-STD-883 specifications. Please contact the factory for further details.

Ciao Wireless is able to "customize" most designs in order to meet a customer's particular requirement, and in most cases, without having to sacrifice the competitive catalog pricing and delivery of Ciao's products. Forward all of your "special" requirements for Ciao to review and quote.
